Background
A marine-tech innovator
Alloy’s goal is to get more people on the water, and, to accomplish that, we’re building smarter and safer boats with our innovative software at the center. We think that a smarter and safer boat makes it easier to get on the water and lowers the barrier to entry for new boaters—while making the overall boating experience far superior for experienced boaters.
Our core innovation
AllOY's most significant innovation is in the software that delivers autonomous features like auto-docking, undocking, go to point, and the ability to navigate around other boats—with more functionality being added to our boats via regular over-the-air updates.
Our first boat
The first boat to be announced is a 28-foot power catamaran that features the company’s innovative helm system, ultra wide helm screens, and full control over the boat via joystick.
Timeline
Towards the end of 2023, we’ll launch our first prototype--bringing together our autonomous and EV technology with a gorgeous, reimagining of the recreational boat. We are creating something that just feels different. Not just a new boat or new boat technology, but a whole new boating experience. We will begin taking preorders in 2023, and we expect to ship our first production boats to customers in late 2024.

Sensor suite
So many of the accidents on the water are related to inattention or “improper lookout” (as the Coast Guard categorizes it). We knew that at the core of our software has to be a solid environmental and situational awereness capability. We use a combination of RADAR, LiDAR, and computer vision to build an understanding of the environment and hazards around the boat.
Autonomous functionality
Our goal is to use software to create an easier and more enjoyable boating experience, and one of the main tools we have to do that is autonomy. Our first boats will not be fully autonomous—nor is our goal to get rid of boat drivers. Instead we are focusing on using autonomy to reduce the fear, embarrassment, and boredom out of some of the stickiest parts of operating a boat: docking and undocking, stopping, staying in one spot, and repeating repetitive tasks. Since our boats come with more than enough sensors and processing power, as new features are added they will continue to support more complex automation—and automation in more challenging situations.
Our position on electric propulsion
The plan for 2024 and beyond is that AllOY’s production boats will include all-electric powertrains.
However, none of our innovation or value proposition rest in the electrification of our initial or future boats. Our ability to license or partner with an existing OEM that manufactures primarily ICE boats is not impacted by starting with an electric boat of our own.
